The pinnacle of the tour is at the bandstand where Bowie performed at the 1969 Beckenham Free Festival, organized by the Growth Arts Lab, that David was one of the founders with his friend Mary. With thanks to Bromley Landscape Group, we have special access to enter this iconic bandstand on the tour, which is normally closed to the public
The historic bandstand is in urgent need of funds for necessary restoration. In memory of our local lad, ‘The Bowie Bandstand Restoration Project’, is a crowdfunding campaign presented by the Friends of Croydon Road Recreational Ground and supported by Bromley Council and Bromley Landscape Group. The fund already has support from numerous organisations, individuals and celebrities but further funding is required to reach the target needed to fully restore this Edwardian bandstand. In Ziggy’s Footsteps is delighted to support the funding appeal and will be donating a percentage of each tour ticket sold, towards the fund.
