The team who have developed ‘In Ziggy’s Footsteps’ are massive fans of Bowie. They were born and grew up in Beckenham and have heavily researched Bowie’s life in the town through a wide range of sources including talking to people who knew Bowie at the time.
Kat Webb (Director of ‘In Ziggy’s Footsteps’) – “David Bowie’s music has had a huge influence on my life since I became a massive fan in my teens. It has always amazed me that Bowie, Ronson, Woody and Trevor all lived in my home town at the same time as me, when I was a child. The 5 albums Bowie released while living here (‘David Bowie’ – later renamed ‘Space Oddity’, ‘The Man who sold the World’, ‘Hunky Dory’, ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’ and ‘Aladdin Sane’) by coincidence happen to be my favourite LP’s of his.
“I have been fascinated for years with Bowie’s early life in South London and have dreamed about developing a walking tour for over 12 years, to celebrate not only Bowie’s life in Beckenham but that of the Spiders from Mars too. Bowie sadly left this earth too early, but he has left us with an amazing legacy of music, art, inspiration, creativity and the belief in reaching our dreams.
“He has inspired me to follow my dream in ensuring that his early career and rise to fame while living and performing in Beckenham is honoured, celebrated and remembered. So come and join us at ‘In Ziggy’s Footsteps’ to explore Bowie and the Spiders’ remarkable journey while living in a south London suburban town.”
In Ziggy’s Footsteps is proud to be a member of the Beckenham Business Association.
